India vs England 5th Test: England's tremendous comeback on the fourth day, but rain spoiled the game
Oval, London - The fourth day of the final match of the ongoing 5-match Test series between India and England was very exciting. On the one hand, England made a tremendous comeback and brought the match close to victory, while on the other hand, rain and poor light kept the Indian team's hopes alive. Today's day of this high-voltage match was full of many ups and downs and the course of the match will be decided only on the last day.
England's explosive batting
England started the day with a score of 21/0. In the first few overs, the Indian bowlers bowled tight but did not get any quick success. After this, former England captain Joe Root (105 runs) and young batsman Harry Brook (111 runs) together started putting pressure on the Indian bowlers. Both the batsmen showed a great mix of patience and aggression and shared a partnership of 195 runs, which brought England back completely in the match.
While India had taken a lead of 49 runs in the first innings and scored 324 runs in the second innings to give England a target of 374 runs, the England team has scored 339/6 runs by the end of the fourth day. Now England needs only 35 runs to win while India has to take 4 wickets.
Struggle of Indian bowlers
Mohammad Siraj and Prasidh Krishna were the most effective bowlers for India, who took 2-2 wickets. But India did not get much success in front of England's strong partnership. Captain Rohit Sharma made changes in the fielding and adopted a mix of spin and pace, but the pair of Root and Brook did not let him survive.
Rain and bad light changed the game
In the afternoon, the weather suddenly changed at the Oval ground and the game had to be stopped due to rain and bad light. The ground staff put up covers and the umpires inspected several times, but the fourth day's play was called off prematurely due to the wet outfield.
This situation brought some relief to the Indian team as England has come very close to victory. Now the entire responsibility will rest on the weather and Indian bowling on the fifth and final day.
Now the big question is who will win tomorrow?
If the weather remains clear and the game is completed, England has a great chance to win, as only 35 runs are to be scored.
On the other hand, India hopes that the pitch will help on the last day and the fast bowlers will get early success.
If rain spoils the game again, then the match may go towards a draw.
Today was England's day but the Indian team has not given up yet. The match is now at an exciting turn. Fans are now waiting to see if India will stage a miraculous comeback or England will manage to win the 5-Test series 3-2?
